Anatoli Akerman and his partner Christoph Schiele combine poetic clowning and physical theatre.
One is a bird living in an oversized cuckoo clock from which he likes to step out with an amused "KuKu". The other has a bird that lives in a cuckoo clock and has a habit of slamming the door in its owner's face. In KuKu, the two of them sneak around each other in a marvelous togetherness and antagonism. In their search for fulfillment, they stalk and ensnare each other, embrace and outwit each other, and ultimately sit in the same train of recurring routines. A play with a subtle, melancholy humor that makes its audience laugh happily one second and pause wonderfully still the next.
About the Company
Anatoli Akerman is one of the most subtle clowns in the world. Born in Ukraine, he began his mime career at the age of seven. He is the star clown of Circus Roncalli, performed with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas and Tokyo and brilliantly performed Tim Burton's new interpretation of the Disney classic Dumbo. The exceptional artist currently lives in his adopted home of Graz.
Christoph Schiele's first contact with clowning was exactly 20 years ago and he has been passionate about this special art form ever since. He studied at the École Internationale de Théâtre LASSAAD in Belgium and graduated in 2021 with the new circus form “Magie Nouvelle” at the Center National des Arts du Cirque in France.
