Objects in the Sky combines contemporary circus techniques, sound collages, and autofictional explorations. It delves deeply into the cultural and social contradictions faced by the performers. Motivated by queer, feminist, and post-migrant critiques of assimilation and the self- and external exploitation of identities within the framework of contemporary cultural production, Objects in the Sky engages with current discourses and transforms them through powerful visual imagery into a circus collage that creates visibility for those who do not fit into the canon of clear-cut identities.
About the Company
The artists work as a trio in the core team, aiming to utilize resources such as privileges through citizenship and knowledge of the funding landscape without falling into reproductive power structures. While their work is primarily shaped by the methods of contemporary circus, they complement these with their backgrounds in activist work and academic research methods. The research and the performance methods developed through it are manifested in the individual scenes of the performance. The relationship between body and object is always at the center of attention.
About the Location
Chamäleon Berlin is a creative venue, network partner and stage for contemporary circus. Since our reopening and the foundation of the current structure in 2004, we have been a showcase for current artistic positions in the international circus scene and over the years have evolved into an important production venue and creative partner. Our mission is to support circus artists in their artistic work, to promote the sustainable development of the art form and to present contemporary circus to a broad audience. With an orientation and program unique in Germany, the Chamäleon pursues a sincere commitment and makes a significant contribution to increasing the visibility and appreciation of contemporary circus as an art form in its own right.
