Since 2017, the FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT Festival at CABUWAZI Tempelhof has been bringing artists and productions to the stage that deal with the topics of freedom of movement, flight and arrival. Issues that are present on a daily basis due to the current social situation on the former airport site in Tempelhof: the airport site is a temporary home for around 5,000 refugees; a second Tempohome is being planned; CABUWAZI has become an artistic home for more and more newly arrived artists.
Leaving, saying goodbye, arriving, starting again - how does that affect me and my identity? The artists of CABUWAZI Tempelhof will provide artistic answers to these and other questions at the FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT Festival on 16 November 2024!
This year, we will be presenting two shows by CABUWAZI ensembles and will for the first time be offering an open stage with artists from the CABUWAZI family. Antinational Embassy will provide live music in the evening.
In 2024, the FOM will take place as part of Zeit für Zirkus. Zeit für Zirkus is a Germany-wide festival for contemporary circus and includes performances, premieres, workshops, dialogue events, parties, online formats and much more!
Attention CABUWAZI artists aged 18 and over: You can still apply for the Open Stage until 23 September! Find more information here!

The CABUWAZI Tempelhof youth group consists of over 20 young artists aged between 14 and 21. They are shaped by their diversity and variety - their motto is unity. They are strong, they are brave and they are wild! They come together with many different life stories in which migration plays an important role. In this year's show, the ensemble will tell us their stories through various disciplines on the ground and in the air. The explosive overall package is tied together by a common thread of dance acrobatics.

VisÁ-Vis
An airport - Tempelhof Airport - is a symbolic place associated with a wide range of emotions and major power structures. In this in-house production by CABUWAZI, 15 artists work together in co-operation with Raphael Moussa Hillebrand. They share a love of circus and a sense of home at CABUWAZI Tempelhof, where they have been training together for quite some time. Although some of them came to Germany and Berlin through different circumstances or airports, they all landed at the Kulturflughafen. Together they attempt to illuminate the theme of arriving from their different perspectives both as performers and artists.

Open Stage
Artists over the age of 18 from the CABUWAZI family were invited to apply with a solo, duo or group circus performance on the theme of freedom of movement. A jury of employees and participants at CABUWAZI Tempelhof selected eight circus performances to be shown at the FREDOOM OF MOVEMENT festival's Open Stage. We are very proud to present to the audience a diverse, professional and artistically experimental evening event from the CABUWAZI family.

Live music by Antinational Embassy
The band Antinational Embassy was founded in the refugee-occupied school in Ohlauer Strasse in Berlin-Kreuzberg and is made up of activists from the school and its surrounding community.
The band project ‘Antinational Embassy’ formed in 2013 in connection with the movement towards more refugee rights and the occupation of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule in Berlin Kreuzberg. Since then, the band has been producing music based on hip hop, reggae and ska rhythms - always with a political message. The band's aim is to unite people in the political fight for equality. Throughout their musical journey, the band has collaborated with many artists and performed in clubs, house projects and demonstrations. Antinational Embassy will release their 3rd studio album this summer.

Empowering children and young people regardless of origin, culture and gender - that's what CABUWAZI stands for. We are one of the largest children's and youth circuses in Europe and a safe space for circus, dance, theatre, music and much more. As a low-threshold extracurricular education and movement programme, we not only strengthen the physical abilities and social skills of our training participants, but also promote the exchange of cultures, attitudes and experiences - as the basis for a diverse society worth living in. And circus brings people together - no matter what language they speak or where they come from.
