The Nordic Council: Häppy Hour

Häppy Hour is an ode to the deep dark North and its social rituals. It wrestles with the contradictory relationship to alcohol and dives into the weird, awkward charm of northern nightlife. Through the lens of contemporary circus and comedy, it reveals how real-life situations can be absurd, reminding us that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves—even at our lowest. Mixing juggling and aerial rope with physical theatre and live music, The Nordic Council creates scenes that spark recognition in the audience. A shared feeling of “we’ve all been there” runs through the show as the trio stumble through the highs and lows of Nordic nights.

About the Company

The Nordic Council is a contemporary circus collective exploring Nordic identities and drawing from the artists’ shared Northern heritage. Founded in 2017 by Merri Heikkilä (Finland), Bjarni Árnason (Iceland), and Jakob Jacobsson (Sweden) during their studies at Codarts Circus Arts in Rotterdam, the company builds on shared humor and experience as the core of its work. Their debut show celebrated their cultural roots, reaching both those familiar with them and those encountering them anew. Since then, The Nordic Council has toured festivals across Europe, winning awards at STOFF in Stockholm and Reykjavík Fringe. Their premiere Häppy Hour received 5/6 stars from ISCENE, Denmark’s leading stage publication.
