MODULAR CIRCUS: Innenleben (Ausschnitte aus dem Debutprogramm)
The newfly founded Company MODULAR CIRCUS will be presenting acts from their debut full-length show "On the inside: stories of levity and burden" at the beautiful tent of the preparatory circus-school Cirque Intense. About "On the inside": Four artists move into a new home together—and each of them has their own baggage to carry. Their new four walls quickly make it clear that their shared home is a place where each person's idiosyncrasies must find their place. Between sleepless nights and exuberant celebrations, the artists come to terms with themselves and their new roommates in order to create a new order for themselves and their shared future. Over the course of the play, the audience witnesses how moving boxes can contain not only objects, but also stories of levity and burden. In two acts, the performers present numerous scenes that are as diverse as the characters themselves—and those who look closely will discover stories of home, ambivalence, and solidarity. About the Company

The MODULAR CIRCUS company was formed last year in Freiburg with the aim of telling stories from everyday life in a circus-like manner. The collective comprises five artists with very different backgrounds who have set themselves the task of emphasizing the diversity of modern circus in their pieces through their different styles and personalities. Their debut piece deals with the theme of moving house and living in close quarters with other people, which is metaphorical for the coming together of the performers in the collective. Their future work will focus on other concepts from everyday life as well as abstract ideas: in cooperation with a student collective from Freiburg, they plan to turn the concept of the traditional “Christmas circus” on its head this winter season—Freiburg will host the first Christmas circus that aims to present the popular holidays to the audience from a counter-normative perspective. Furthermore, the collective would like to address significantly more complex and comprehensive topics, such as the model of the “five stages of grief” and other lesser-spoken about concepts of human existence.

About the Location

The shows are going to be presented in the tent of the preparatory circus school Cirque Intense in Neuenburg am Rhein. The tent is just a few minutes away from the local train station. Parking is available right by the tent.
