"Suitcases" What experiences are packed in your suitcase? What journey has it taken you on? What will you choose to keep inside, and what will you try to leave behind? Who will you and your suitcase meet along the way—and how will that encounter change your life? And the most important question: Is moving a tragedy, or simply a step into a new life? Is it necessary for personal growth, or just something that happens? "Suitcases" is a physical theater performance where artists share personal migration stories through circus arts. Using acrobatics, juggling, diabolo, and contemporary dance, we create an emotional space for dialogue about relocation and finding a new home. Three performers explore their own journeys, asking: What will I discover in my suitcase? Will these discoveries help me build a new life—or leave me frozen in anticipation?
About the Company
Upsala Circus – a contemporary circus open to life. Since 2022, we have been working in Zeitz, creating a space for freedom, creativity, and human connection. Children, teenagers, and professional artists come together to explore and develop contemporary circus, create performances, and take part in cultural exchanges and international tours. We believe that circus, culture, and education are powerful tools for addressing social issues, unlocking personal potential, and building dialogue within communities. Upsala-Circus is open to everyone — regardless of age, background, physical or mental ability. We create opportunities for people to express themselves and believe that freedom of expression makes people happier.
About the Location
The event takes place at the Capitol Theater in Zeitz – a small town in Saxony-Anhalt with a rich history and a growing young cultural scene. Originally built as a cinema, the venue has been a cultural landmark in Zeitz for over 90 years – and will host contemporary circus for the very first time in its history.
