High (on) Fashion’ is a contemporary circus project that talks about waste, specifically textile waste. It talks about the overconsumption of fashion and the negative impacts of it on our society , using circus techniques on a 6m high Chinese pole and on the floor to communicate. The aim is to spread awareness about the urgency of the topic and initiate rethinking fashion consumption on a small scale. That’s why the idea of the project is not only to create a circus show, but an event in which the audience is invited to watch a circus show about this topic and afterwards has the opportunity to exchange their not wanted clothes with each other. The audience is invited to join a journey of an abstract consume of clothes, a world in which clothes magically appear, disappear and fly, pushing the character on stage to her physical and mental limits. The performance aims to leave the audience with questions like : Who are we when we wear different kinds of clothes ? Are we wearing clothes or are clothes wearing us ? How many clothes are a lot and how many are too much and at what point is it only madness ?
About the Company
My name is Clara Köpf, I am an upcoming Circus artist mainly specialised in Chinese pole. I am half German half Persian , but grew up in Germany. I found my passion for circus when I was 18 years old in a local youth circus where I first was captured by training hand-balancing and later through teaching younger kids I discovered the discipline Chinese pole. The realisation that I could turn my passion into a profession led me to Codarts Circus Arts, where I’ve spent four years specialising in Chinese pole, along with developing my skills as a hand balancer and acrobat. I graduated in June 2024 and since have followed my Journey as a circus artist both as a solo artist creating my own show High(on)Fashion , as well as collectively working in a duo with Lotte Sterringa, working for Ish Dance Collective and Monki Business .
