KLUB GIRKO: GAZE ON BALANCE
Man. Woman. Object. And now? GAZE ON BALANCE explores the themes of gender and balance. The focus is on the art of object balancing and its connection to social gender roles. Through their artistic use of symbolic everyday objects, the performers of KLUB GIRKO question the construction of »male« and »female«. The man balances an axe and the woman a feather duster. But what happens when they swap objects? Or when they both balance a car tire together? Questions arise about the attribution of strength, lightness, power and control, and space opens up for new interpretations. GAZE ON BALANCE is shown in excerpts as a »work in progress« The presentation takes the audience through the entire Societaetstheater and is designed as a scenic parcours with various stations. This opens up different insights into the emerging piece. The premiere will take place in March 2026 at the Societaetstheater.

About the Company

The KLUB GIRKO collective, based in Jena, was founded in 2017. The company develops new artistic formats by combining circus with dance, theater, music, visual arts and digital media. At the heart of their work is a spirit of experimentation and the constant reinvention of what circus can be — in dialogue with contemporary social discourses.

About the Location

In Dresden's oldest theater, we present contemporary performing arts: drama, performance, dance, new circus, and puppet theater, as well as concerts, readings, and productions that invent their own genres. We are a production house for the independent performing arts and see ourselves as accomplices to the artists we support in developing and presenting their projects. With our theater program, festivals, event series, guest performances, and discussion formats, we present a broad spectrum of artistic styles. Regional, national, and international artists meet theater enthusiasts from Dresden, neighbors, and travelers.
