Over the last fifty years, circus internationally has undergone a remarkable transformation. As a progressive form of circus, the "contemporary circus" has conquered a new position within society. In Germany, too, the art form is currently developing rapidly.
The two editors of the book "Circus in flux" Tim Behren and Jenny Patschovsky introduce the art form of contemporary circus and show artistic positions with two film works.
Der Informatiker und Jongleur Adrien Mondot und die Bildhauerin Claire Bardainne verwischen in ihren Arbeiten die Grenzen zwischen realer und digitaler Welt. Der Dokumentarfilm „About Claudio Stellato“ von Filmemacher Filip Jacobson begleitet den multidisziplinären Künstler nach Frankreich an seinen kreativen Rückzugsort und lässt uns in sein mannigfaltiges Spiel mit Materialien eintauchen.
The evening is a cooperation with ARTE, Theater der Zeit and the CircusDanceFestival.
About CircusDanceFestival
The CircusDanceFestival is a nationwide flagship project dedicated to making current performative forms and discourses in the field of contemporary circus and dance visible. As a model institution networked throughout Europe, the concept is based on a combination of an annual festival in Cologne, a sector-specific residency and co-production programme, the promotion of youth and young talent, international cooperation between dance and circus universities, the organisation of regular symposia, and the publication of the VOICES magazine for academic discourse. The CircusDanceFestival was initiated by the company Overhead Project within the framework of the excellence promotion programme TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund and is under the overall artistic direction of the label.
